Simon introduced Simone, winner of our Ken Wilks Spirit of the Heart Award 2011. Simone started by thanking us again for the award and said she was still in shock at being the winner.
She asked that we consider registering our names at: www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au to help lobby politicians into revolutionising disability services.
An amazing story

The travel voucher took her on her 1st ever holiday and 1st aeroplane flight, to Sydney where she saw Bondi and attended her Aunt’s 50th birthday. Simone lives in Lara with her parents and is an advocate for NIDS. She works 64 hours/month at VALID: Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disabilities, promoting self-directed approaches through information, training and support for people with disabilities and their carers. Their needs are for more funding and support to help keep the child/adult at home, because they often fret when forced to move out. Simone has to wait 3 years for $1200 funding to replace her 5 year old cranky wheelchair. She asked that we consider registering our names at: www.everyaustraliancounts.com.au to help lobby politicians into revolutionising disability services. Campaign launch 1st July and ‘Having a say’ Conference 6th-8th February 2013.
Simon thanked Simone for her informative talk and presented her with a token gift from the club.
