Janette Anderson - Update

Pres Peter than called on Chairman Dan to introduce our Guest Speaker, Elaine Janes, to
tell us about her life since she took up the sporting activity of weight lifting.

Elaine became involved in weightlifting 9 years ago when she wanted to do something more in her life after she retired as well as going to Yoga one night a week. Her philosophy on life is “it is never too late or you are never too old” to do things in life – the hardest thing is to make a start.

The weightlifting club she started with consisted of only 2 male members. Elaine went to Morwell for her first competitive event, where she considered that she was well away from anyone who may have known her - That concern does noes not worry her any more now!

In the past 9 years, she has competed in 4 Masters’ World Championships which were held in Greece, Poland (where she won a Bronze medal), Cypress and Sydney. She will be competing in the Australian Masters’ games that will be held in Geelong next year, and has registered to compete in the World Master Games in Turin Italy next year as well.  She finds that weightlifting keeps her fit and healthy with good muscle tone.

Ross taking note of this statement took up Elaine’s challenge to an arm wrestle, and guess who won!!
At the end of her talk, Elaine answered questions from the audience who found her presentation very interesting. Dan then presented Elaine with a Rotary gift as a token of our appreciation.
Dan passed the meeting back to Pres Peter who spoke of items raised at the monthly Presidents Meeting. It was recommended that Clubs get involved with combined Community projects similar to the Community meals program at Christ Church.

We were advised that our Member, Janette, will be taking 12 months Leave of Absence from the Club as well as from her job at Barwon Health to work in Alice Springs and surrounds with our Indigenous People. Pres Peter spoke highly of Janette’s contribution to the Club, and said her presence will be certainly missed. He wished  Janette well in her venture and we will be looking forward to seeing her again when she returns.
Good luck Janette
