What an interesting presentation from Cath on Tuesday evening.

From English and Irish heritage Cath parents lived and worked in Port Sunlight near Liverpool.

Port Sunlight was a village built by William Lever in 1888 with his vision to create a village for workers at his Sunlight Soap factory.

Changing the lives of his workers that were living in terrible conditions at the time to comfortable housing, with culture and sporting facilities plus veggie allotments.

A man before his time, I think.

But living in the Liverpool area, that was the most heavily bombed city outside London during the war, wasn’t easy, so when Cath mum saw an advert about Migration to Australia it “fired her imagination” and they arrived in Australia in 1949, living in Norlane, and Dad went to work at Shell.

Cath attended Sacred Heart College and was just 16 when she wanted to do a deportment course, mum and dad said no, so she went and got her first job at Corio Village and paid for it herself. Well done you Cath!

Her working life has taken her all over the world, but she has always returned to her home in Geelong, but she started close to home at Shell then onto Avalon and the Army Reserve.

Harrods in London.

Then back to the Hilton in Melb, and while she was in Australia why not a trip around Aus then she joined the Forrest and Land commission and was living in Kalgoorlie.

Ireland was the next port of call l for a while, but a quick Germany caring for children seemed like a good idea, that she found very rewarding.

So back to Geelong to Study Early Child Education that led to a 2year job in Tasmania.

Back to Geelong again and study for a Real Estate license in Apollo Bay.

Then a treechange to Mt Baw Baw to renovate a house then to Gippsland and now Geelong where there is family.

Cath wasn’t sure what to do now so The Gordon for a Barber Course sounded like a good idea, now she can add being a qualified Baber to her very long list of achievements.

What an interesting life you have had with so many adventures and stories to tell.

Thank you for giving us your time and being our Behind the Badge speaker.

I am sure I have left a few things out, but the pen just couldn’t keep up Cath, so apologies for any gaps
